Vatican tours

My family will be in Italy in June. I am trying to decide between a tour of the Vatican with RomeWalks or Through Eternity versus one with a Vatican staff member (already booked). Thoughts on which is better?

How did you reserve with a Vatican staff member? Can this only be done within 30 days of your visit.

I emailed the Vatican (www.vatican.va and email address [email protected]). I gave them several dates and they responded within ~ 24 hours with a reservation. The Vatican website is pretty archaic (no surprise) but helpful. The tour information is in the visitor services section under the Vatican museum heading.

We just returned from Rome the other day. We did the Vatican tour with Angel Tours. Our guide Ken was great. A 3 1/2 hour tour turned into an almost 5 hour tour. It was great.

Is there a website for booking a Vatican Museums tour with Angel Tours? We leave in 2 weeks and will be in Rome 2 weeks after that so I would like to get a tour set up now, before the USA. Thanks.

Hi Neil,

I haven't done the Vatican staff member tour; but I will vouch for both Rome Walks and Through Eternity. I used Rome Walks for the Collosseum/Palatine Hill/Roman Forum tour, and Through Eternity for the Vatican tour. My Through Eternity guide was an art histry professor from Boston, doing tours in Rome for the summer. She was entralling - and it was my favorite of the two tours. Though I have no basis of comparrison against the Vatican staff member tours - good luck, whatever you decide!
