vatican tours

are there any tours that let you stay or return to the chapel and/or museums after the tour (on that day) without paying an additional fee and without the guide. Can you walk around the plazza and outside buildings at any time or is there a gate that closes at night and you must pay during the day?

The tour given by the vatican allows you to return to the museums and Sistine chapel after the tour. You can spend the rest of the day inside the museums if you wish. You can book it at: http://biglietteriamusei.vatican.va/musei/tickets/do?weblang=en&do They offer a few tours, be sure to take the one that >>does not<< include the basilica. If you do you won't be allowed to re-enter the museums without paying again. There is no gate or any type of barrier that separates the Vatican from Rome other than the wall that surrounds the gardens and back areas. St. Peter's square is open and unless you look for the concrete barriers and line of white bricks you won't know you've crossed into the Vatican or are still in Rome. There is no fee to enter the square or the Basilica. You must wear proper clothing to enter the basilica or they won't let you inside. Donna
