You can also get tours through the concierge at most hotels. My experience with the tour from our trip last month was that it's like being shuttled through the hallways like a herd of cattle shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of other people with tours in a variety of languages. Consider contacting the Vatican office for advanced tickets as friends recommended to us. It would have been much better to take a whole day to meander through the museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica at a much slower pace. The line to buy tickets there is at least four hours long. Same with tickets to museums in Rome and Florence if you go there.
