I was wondering if it would be easier to book a Vatican tour on my own or go with the cruise ship tours. The cruise ship offers a ride to rome from the port.

It's not hard to do on your own and will certainly cost you much less. You can take the train into Rome and go to the Vatican from there. One of the easiest ways is to take the train to the termini station and change to the metro A which has two stops close to the Vatican museums. Once you are done with the Vatican, depending on the time, you can either walk to the termini or take the metro back to catch the train. You can buy a pass that costs 9 euros or so and will cover the train to and from Rome and the metros for the day. Donna
