It seems common for professional Vatican Tours to skip the Dome (my tour is called Pristine Sistine early access, which starts at 7:15am and goes for 4 hours but, no Dome). Any thoughts on how to best get to the Dome? Should we try to tack it on at the end? Or come back another day? It seems like getting to the top of the dome is a "can't miss" site.

We did this tour a few years again. We tacked on the dome reservation for about 30 minutes after the tour ended. There is a very nice cafe at the roof level (elevator stops here) where you can sit and relax for a little bit before finishing the climb.
We then Got on line to enter St Peter’s. This was before you could make a reservation. We spent an entire day at the Vatican.
