Today is the day I finally can buy vatican tickets and now im finding they are timed so I need to figure out how much time to allow before our 3:15 scavi tour . If I get say 11:30 tickets but dont arrive till noon is that a problem ? any input is appreciated . thank you Sue
Maybe, maybe not--your in Italy and it depends on the mood of the guard at the gate. Me, I always arrive before the time to be sure.
I would plan to be there at your reserved time. The Vatican museums are busy all day. If you show up late, they have every right to not let you in and make you wait in line.
If you are late and there is a huge line the guards have the right to make you wait in the regular line. They allocate a specific amount of tickets per hour for crowd control reasons so don't be surprised if they make you wait.
If you don't think you can get there til noon just book the noon tickets and be safe.

Keep in mind it's going to take you a while to get to the Scavi entrance when you leave the museum. If you leave by the main exit, I'd allow at least 20 minutes, if you're comfortable walking fast, 30 minutes to be safe if the crowds are bad. And you need to be on time for the Scavi tour.
