Vatican/Sistine late afternoon tours?

Well, seems like most of the reasonably-priced early morning tours are booked for our dates (5/23 & 24). Any thoughts on looking for one later in the afternoon? Like 4:15/4:30 in terms of any crowd-mitigating potential? We are a family of 3. Sistine Chapel, of course, is main reason for visit, but I'd like to have some time to enjoy the museum offerings as well. Thanks.

We did The Tour Guys “After Hours” tour of the Museum and the Sistine Chapel two weeks ago. It was a lot to take in but one of the highlights of our trip. But, pace yourself early in the day, maybe take a nap/get out of the heat and crowds so you can fully appreciate it.

Thanks @NickB. Two follow ups: what time did you actually enter the museum? And, what were the crowds like at that hour?

We were told to be early across the street from the entrance - 4:15 I think for a 4:30 tour. They assembled all the folks there and split us up into three groups of about 15 each. They were not the only tour operator outside the entrance at that time so the groups went in spaced about 5 minutes apart. Entry, get tickets, get headphones, group together again (potty stop anyone?). All of the groups did a pretty good job of leap-frogging one another in front of major sights, but one could not linger too long. The Sistine Chapel was the last stop and you had about 15-20 minutes there... loud talking was discouraged. We went on to several more rooms before our tour guide collected the headphones and gratuities. Departure on our own so you could linger but after 2 1/2 hours we headed for dinner.
