Vatican & Sistine chapel visits

Hi, My family & I would like to visit both the Vatican &
Sistine Chapel. Where can we purchase the passes w/o waiting in long lines? Can reservations be made online or do I have to pay upfront? Is there a way to avoid the long
wait in line?..ie..taking a tour? What would you recommend? Is it worth buying the Roma pass if we're only
going to be in Rome for 2 1/2 days? I read that if you go
to the 2 most expensive places..ie..Colisseum & Borghese
and ride the Metro & buses, it would be worth it?
Thanks for your input.

Regarding the Vatican Museum: Depending on the time of the year, day of the week, any holidays in the time-period you are here, and time of day - you can possibly go in when there are no lines. You can make reservations upfront for an additional €4 each.

I would recommend taking a tour - or at very least, getting an audioguide as there is SO MUCH to see here - it can be overwhelming. For more info on avoiding the lines, see this posting - CLICK HERE

As far as a Roma Passs, with 2 1/2 days you are probably on the bubble. If you're going to two major sites, such as the Colosseo combo ticket and Galleria Borghese as you suggest - these now are running €20.50 when added together. The Roma Pass is €23... so you're spending €2.50 to ride the bus/metro system for two days. That IS A DEAL - but only if you're going to use the public tranpostation. Listen to the Rick Steve's guide. Go to the vatican museum in the afternoon. Lines are short or nonexistant. We just walked in at 3pm the day before palm sunday. In the morning it was packed
