Vatican & Sistine Chapel guided tour

Has anyone done the individual guided tour (from the Vatican website)? It is around 30 euros and it includes the ticket, earphones and a guide. Is the guide a person or a book or CD?

I will be traveling alone and would like a guided tour but don't want to pay a lot of money. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!

Hi Jennifer! The tour is given by a guide and lasts for 2 hours. I'm not sure how much other tour companies charge, but if you want to save money, you can skip a tour altogether and do it yourself. (It helps to have a good guide book).

Hi Jennifer,

We're traveling to Rome in 3 weeks. According to my research this is your least expensive option for a
guided tour. Other tours cost 50 euros and up PLUS cost of the entry ticket.

However, I don't know how good are Vatican's own guides. May be someone out there can share their experience.

Jennifer I did the guided tour last year with the Vatican website. The guide is a person & the guided tour 29.50EU lasts two hours and the rate includes the admission ticket. Tickets must be purchased only on the day of the visit at the Vatican Museums "Guided Tours" desk. To avoid any queue, you are allowed to enter the Vatican Museums from the entrance side, at Viale Vaticano, 30 minutes before the tour leaves. Email your request of date, morning or afternoon, language, number of people, and party name to E-MAIL: visiteguidate.musei@scv.va

I have toured with a small private tour company called Presto Tours. We avoided the queues at the Vatican and our guide was very smart, funny and very entertaining. The tour cost was 35 Euros and then the entry ticket to total 53 Euros. The guide spoke perfect english and was from the U.S.

You won't regret spending the few extra euros for the guided visit. There is just too much to see and try to comprehend that just trying to get by with a guide book really can't compare. Our guide was absolutely great - fit in such a lot of information in the short time and with a wonderful Italian accent!
