Vatican post-COVID

The last time I visited the Vatican (2016?), there was a huge line outside even if you already had tickets, and the crowds inside were insane. Has anyone been to the Vatican museums since 2020? Is it still similar in terms of the line outside and the crowds or has the timed entry, pre-purchased ticket requirement reduced that? I’m wondering if it’s worthwhile to get the pricier tickets (“extra time Sistine chapel”) that offer a bit more off-peak viewing.

I recently visited the Vatican museums. You don't say when you are going. We arrived at about 2 pm on a weekday, and although they were busy, it was nothing like I saw on a previous visit. We went without a reservation (and, of course, were lucky to get in). Make sure you have your vaccination card available. They check them carefully, even counting the number of doses you have before allowing you to enter.

I visited the Vatican Museums on a weekday in January. There was not a long line, but, of course, January is not typically a busy tourist time. I had reservations and got right in at my appointed time. The galleries and Sistine Chapel were crowded, but not as crowded as when I have been there (many times) in May and June.
