Vatican on line booking

I'm in the process of booking our (4) tickets to the Vatican museums via their online booking system. My question is by doing so will we avoid the lines or should we book a tour instead?

Show the printout to the guards at the entrance of the Museum and they'll let you right in. No need to wait in line.

the museums are crowded the whole day. There are constantly tours coming through. In the afternoon the lines to get into the building are shorter but there are still lots of people inside until closing. the ticket office is open until 4 and the museums close at 6.

Both the entrance tickets and the tours given by the vatican include skip the line privileges. Make sure to get there at the booked time or you will lose that right.

Try and make your reservations as late in the day as possible and it will be much less crowded.

Tod, what would be the latest time and still be able to see things?
