Vatican Necropolis change in reservation system???

We will be visiting Rome in May of 2026. Last month when the calendar for a May visit to the Necropolis opened, I sent a reservation request to the official site. I received a confirmation that said our request had been received and it was being reviewed. There has been no further communication from them. Today, when I looked, the reservation request calendar is now only open through March of 2026. I sent an email to the official site and asked if their process has changed. Their reply was to only send me the link to the calendar through March. Does anyone have insight as to whether or not they have changed their process? At this point I'm thinking I should send a new request once the May 2026 calendar reopens. Thanks in advance for any thoughts or suggestions.

Thank you for the suggestion, but unfortunately that is not the official ticketing site for the Necropolis.

I also requested tickets on November 14 for a date range of May 11-14 for 8 people. No time was available to click on. I received an email that same day saying my request was received.
I checked the website a few minutes ago. They only allow you to put in one date, not a range. When I put in May 11, the times are in grey. I didn’t want to go any further and accidentally submit a second request. But since I couldn’t click on a time I’m thinking it was changed.
If they have shortened the time frame to 3 months, is there any way to confirm? That means for our, and your, May trip, we would have to submit a new request in February?
If we don’t hear back from them before the February deadline, I will either email them and ask if a new request should be submitted.
What were you thinking?

Thanks so much for your reply. I emailed them yesterday at this address: [email protected]'.

I explained my previous request with the range of dates, and I included a copy of their response letting me know that my request had been received; they were reviewing it and would be getting back to me. I asked them to please confirm that their system had indeed changed.
They did not directly answer the question, but just sent a link to the booking site: https://visite.basilicasanpietro.va/en/booking/necropolivaticana
Unless there is another email address for them, I'm thinking I will just have to wait until the May calendar opens, and re-submit a request. Any thoughts on this?

I agree with you. If we haven’t gotten an email with payment submission info, then I will resubmit a request in February. It’s on my calendar.
Also, checking the closed dates for 2026, in May I see the 14th, one of my range dates, they are closed for the Holy day - Ascension Thursday.

Hello all -
I'm following with the same questions. We are travelling June 17-22, 2026. When I view the May-June-July calendar, there are a few days available, always seems the last week of the month? All the other days are 'greyed.'
Not sure if I missed my chance (all booked) or if I'm too early? Anyone have new info?

No new info but I have 2 ideas -

I’m going to convince my husband, who speaks fluent Italian to call them. Hopefully in the next week or 2.
If that doesn’t work, (no one answers or can’t get through) I am going to reapply in February for our May dates.
With the new system you can only put in one date, not a range like before, so I am undecided if we should put in 4 different requests for our 4 free days or just choose one day and hope for the best.
We’ve been on the tour, but the family traveling with us have not. I did not tell them about it in case we don’t get tickets.
This is more stressful than the entire trip planning.

Having your husband call, and then getting back to us would be much appreciated! I totally agree that this is beyond frustrating. At this point, I'm checking the reservation site twice a day. Currently, the calendar for May has the 16th, 25th, 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th available. Unfortunately, we will not be in Rome any of those days. I've still not received any reply from my original request back in November when the entire May calendar was open. Thanks for your suggestion and help!

UPDATE
Well, we couldn’t get through on the phone so today we emailed the Scavi office piggybacking on the email we received saying they received our request.
I asked about submitting a new request since we saw there is a new request form.
We also had to remove 2 names from our original request so that was added. I’ll let you know if we get a response.

So, another update.
We could not call so we put in a new request today for May 11. Under addition information we wrote that we requested tickets under the old system for 8. (Included date of request). We added that we emailed them in January (with date) that we were now 6 and that we did not receive a confirmation reservation e-mail.
We mentioned resubmitting and hoped this would not cause any problems with receiving tickets.
That’s the best i could do and hopefully we will get a response.
I really can’t stress over or think about this any more. If we get them fine, if not, fine also. I’ll let you know what happens.
