Vatican museums-Sistine Chapel

This November 2024 we have tickets for an 8:00am entrance to the Vatican museums. Do you know if upon entering the museum you can go immediately (beeline) to see the Sistine Chapel so it would be less crowded and then back tract to see the rest of the museum? Has anyone out there done this by first seeing the Sistine Chapel before seeing the rest of the museum? Thank you in advance for your reply.

I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think you’ll be able to do that. The Sistine Chapel was the end of our Vatican tour, exiting out towards St. Peter’s Basilica. When we were there last, it was disappointingly overcrowded. It felt like Disneyland on steroids. We had a morning tour scheduled, I think 10 am so hopefully your 8am will be a great experience!

Technically I think you can do this, but I am unsure how practical it is. I felt pretty much like I was in a cattle chute going down the Vatican hallways where stopping wasn’t really allowed. The crowds kept pushing ever forward.

I have to admit that I did not enjoy the Vatican Museums at all while others seem to consider them a highlight. I suppose the only way to discover how you personally will feel is to go and see for yourself.

yes you can do this. Only those on a tour which has arranged this exit into the Basilica after the Sistine chapel. Everyone else is back in the museum and you can then visit whatever you want to visit.

I just asked this same question on the Rome Reddit Forum and was directed to the following Youtube video - 'Explore The Vatican Solo For Just €25 - Foolproof Step-by-Step guide!' It does seem feasible and this video was helpful in demonstrating. It seems that the 8 am ticket time is crucial for success. I also have tickets in November at 8 am where I am hoping to take the same approach - good luck!
