I will only be Rome on a Wednesday in mid-may. I want to visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. I have been to St. Peter's. I know the Papal audience is on Wednesday. Would it be best to visit the museums in the morning while the audience is going on or wait until afternoon. I can go anytime on Wednesday so I'm flexible on that day.
I would book a tour in advance for the a.m. You will need to skip the lines. Most tours run 9-12. Since you are only in Rome one day, this gives you the afternoon to see some other sights. I wouldn't stay at the Vatican the whole day.
We're planning to just do the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel on our own or with RS Audio tour or the Vatican audio tour. Again, we've been to St. Peter's so are skipping that this time.
Is 3-3.5 hours enough to schedule to see the highlights of the museums and the chapel? We don't want to blow through but we don't need to see everything. Just the highlights.
Thanks.
If you enter the museums around 1 pm-short lines. Get an audio tour.
