I am planning a trip to Rome in June and got an entrance ticket for the Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel. I downloaded the Rick Steves' audio guide for the Sistine Chapel but there isn't one for the Museums. Does anyone have any recommendations on audio guides? Or can I purchase one when I get to the Museum?
They are available in the museum. The only downside is that you have to walk from the Sistine Chapel back to the front exit to return it. This will prevent you from taking the short cut to St. Peter's.
We plan on going to the Basilica at 7:00 am when it opens because, from what I have read, since we are not on a tour we may not be able to use that entrance into the Basilica :(
Thanks for letting me know where to get an audio guide!
Jenna is right, Stephen: the stairs into the basilica are for tours only and there's no guarantee other visitors will be allowed to use them. There are reports from some whom have tried and been turned away.
