Vatican Museum Tickets- Timed Entry

Good Morning,

I'm lucky enough to be part of a tour group of about 30 people traveling to Italy, Germany, and Austria with my son's soccer team. Our tour group will be at the Vatican on July 10th. I'm interested in pre-purchasing tickets so that we can see the Sistine Chapel and avoid lines the day we are there. However, I see on the Vatican website that you must chose a time frame. I also see that it also says, "good for the entire day." Can someone clear this up for me? I'm not sure exactly the time we will be there and don't want to order tickets for the wrong time-frame. Are the time-slots very strict? Thank you in advance!

Pretty much-if you have a slot for 1430 and arrive at 1230, no you won't get in. If you're there at 1400 and most of the 1400 confirmations are in by 1415 or 1420, they normally will keep the line flowing.

the slots are pretty strict; you may end up having to stand in the long line if you are seriously late and won't be admitted if seriously early.

Or, like me, you buy your timed entry ticket and show up a few minutes early only to be told the entire museum is having an unannounced closure because there are "important" people inside so please come back "later". After all, it's Italy and schedules are only important some of the time ;-)

"good for the entire day.

I believe what is trying to be conveyed is that you enter at your designated time, but once in, can stay until closing ( "good for the entire day")

Thank you for the helpful information. It seems we will arrive by 9, so will arrange tickets for 10am to be on the safe side.

Best regards,
