Vatican Museum Tickets December 31

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to get a 4 Vatican Museums - Admission Ticket for December 31. I see the guided tour available, but for the admission ticket, I see the message "Tickets currently unavailable. Please try again."

Does that mean they will open later, or are they sold out?

I can see that in prior days, they were sold out and displayed the "sold out" message, but not for this day.
Any information that could be shared will be much appreciated

I cannot answer your question, but want to make a note about my experience on that date in particular. We had Vatican tickets on December 31, 2018, and were disappointed that when we exited into Saint Peter‘s that much of it was closed in preparation for the holiday. I would recommend visiting Saint Peter‘s a different day. I had expected it to be not available on January one but didn’t realize it would close early on December 31.

I'll hope it isn't the case but it's possible that tickets for regular entry are sold out for the 31st. I'm thinking that might be possible as the website shows tickets available for tours on the 31st, 30th, 29th, 28th (only tickets for tours are sold on specific open Sundays), 27th, and 24th but regular entry tickets show as only available up to the 23rd and they're very nearly sold out for that date. The only open time slot is the last one of the day (17:30.)

Will cross fingers for you that tickets for the 31st just haven't been posted yet but the Christmas holiday is a busy time at the Vatican, and maybe a bit more than usual near the close of a Jubilee Year.

Back in late September we had the same problem. I was finally able to get the tickets but just barely by being flexible on the date. Also, I had to purchase my daughter's ticket for the entry time right before mine but they let us go in together. I'd watch the website for a few days and then buy the guided tour tickets for an extra 10 euros each if necessary. Another great Vatican ticket is The Necropolis under St. Peter's. Check it out at: https://www.basilicasanpietro.va/en/products/the-necropolis. These tickets are difficult to get but well worth it. You see what they built St. Peter's over, including St. Peter's tomb itself. Then you walk up through the Vatican Grottoes where the pope's tombs are - and then on up into St. Peter's Basilica without any lines.

It looks like tickets beyond 12/24 have not been released yet…that is what “unavailable” means vs “sold out”.
Just keep checking.
