Vatican Museum Tickets?

I’ve checked the Vatican Museum website and tickets are no available for the beginning of June 2025. Is there another website I could use to buy tickets?

Hi Brittaney-

General-entry tickets (not tours) are not available for June because you're apparently trying to buy them too far in advance: I see they're available through May 31. I would wait and see if they become bookable for June after the 1st of the year; I wouldn't personally purchase them through an outside vendor.

If you buy tickets from an outside vendor:

  • You will certainly pay more, and unnecessarily so since you have plenty of time to get tickets for June directly from the Vatican Museums at the issue price.

  • The vendor cannot buy the tickets now, either, and may end up without enough to satisfy all its customers. You could be notified late in the game that your money is being refunded, because there are no tickets for you. At that point, your only practical option would be to pay (probably over 100 euros per person) for a commercial guided tour, and even those could very likely be sold out since early June is a peak travel period and 2025 is a Holy Year.

Keep a close eye on the Vatican website. Decide whether you want regular entry tickets or a tour conducted by Vatican Museums personnel. It appears the regular tickets go on sale before the tour tickets, but sales procedures can change at any time. Be prepared with every credit card and every debit card you own, because you never know when a European website will reject a US credit card. If possible, I'd plan to go to the Vatican Museums on my first full day in Rome (unless you're flying in the day before--that could be a bit risky). That way, if you somehow don't manage to grab a ticket for that day, you can try for the next day.

Unlike Colosseum tickets--which are so difficult to obtain that you really need to get up in the middle of the night and sit down at your computer before tickets for your date and time go on sale--tickets for the Vatican Museums are really not terribly difficult to buy. You just need to be aware that they will sell out way, way ahead of time. You already know that, so you're ahead of a large number of other tourists who will probably not start looking for their tickets until around Easter (by which time they may, indeed, be sold out).

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you when the June tickets will go on sale, so you need to watch that website. Whatever the current policy is, could change tomorrow. It's annoying, but it's not the Museums' fault that everyone who goes to Rome thinks s/he just has to see the Sistine Chapel.
