vatican museum reply

I emailed the Vatican for a tour in Oct. for 2 adults and 1 child (6 yrs. old). They replied with a confirmation for only 2 people. Does that mean we can go ahead and show up with our 6 yr. old anyway? Appreciate your input!

That's puzzling. The only thing I can think of is, if this is the Scavi Necropolis tour (requires specific arrangements, you'd know if you're on this one), then children under 15 are not permitted on that tour.

Kent-- My email to them specifically asked for The Vatican & Sistine Chapel tour. I also included my daughter's age as an FYI. I didnt see anything on their website about kids under a certain age being free or getting a discount. Hence my concern. Maybe someone out there has dealt with this?

NC can't help with whether the reservation is messed up or not, but, can reassure you that children are allowed in Vatican and Sistine Chapel.
I do wonder if it has something to do with children maybe being free?? Hope you hear back,, just keep emailing them I guess.

What about private messaging in Ron in Italy and seeing what he thinks?

It sounds like you're definitely not on the Scavi Necropolis tour, that's the only one that doesn't allow children under 15--so that's not the explanation for your situation. Pat's explanation seems the most likely. But I can understand your concern, maybe someone else has been in your exact situation and can advise you.

So far I haven't heard from them since my follow-up email. One explanation I can think of is that kids under a certain age are free--and therefore not included in the reservation. But like I said, there is nothing on their website to support this. Hopefully they do respond soon. Thanks for trying to figure this out with me!

There is some indication from people who've reported in on this Board that the Vatican is often not the fastest of responders to follow-up/clarification e-mail, so you may or may not hear back from them before your departure.

If there is a phone number, I'd try calling. Worth it just to have the peace of mind.

After days of waiting, the Vatican has finally replied to my email. Here's their response verbatim:

"Dear Madame, don't worry, your little dougther will not pay but she will enter!"

Hope this helps someone out there too. =)
