HiApologies if this has been answered, but my site search did not yield the information that I wantedso here goes... -Has anyone done the Vatican Museum under the stars this summer? If so, was it crowded in the evening? Did you feel that you had adequate light/access? Were you still able to get into the Basilica in the evening? I've been twice before, so won't be taking a tour, and I think it might be interesting to see it at nightbut am just wondering if I should make my reservation online (for the last day of it, July 15tham thinking about the 7pm entry) to do this.
Thanks for any input! tory
We didn't do the Under the Stars tour, but we did a private after hours tour and I believe they cover the same things. We didn't visit every room, but we definitely hit the highlights. There was plenty of light, both natural and man-made. I can't address the crowd issue, but from what I've read on various sites the crowds are much less for the Under the Stars tours than they are during the day. That's why we booked a private tour - we hate crowds. The Under the Stars tours started the week after we were in Rome, otherwise we would have done that tour. The Basilica closes at the same time it does every night, so you'll have to see the Basilica before your tour since it will be closed by the time you're done in the museums.
It is less crowded at night than during the day. Not all the rooms are open so check to see that the rooms you are interested in will be open. The basilica closes at 7 pm so you won't be able to visit it after the museums if you choose to see the museums at night. If you really wish to see the vatican at night I would make the reservations soon before they are sold out. Donna
