I just realize that according to my plan I'll be in Rome the last Sunday of May, day in which the Vatican Museum is free. Since I'm on a budget, I'm considering visiting the museum that day. Has anyone visited the museum under this condition? How was your experience? I know it will be crowded, but is it too much of a crowd that wont let you enjoy the visit? Any comment is much appreciated.
You couldn't pay me to visit the Vatican museums on free Sunday. It's so crowded that you literally get pushed along and have no chance of stopping and looking at the art work. It's not fun or worthwhile to be in such a massive crowd. I will never do it again. Donna
I went on a day when it wasn't free. It was too crowded for me to enjoy. That should give you a clue about how crowded it will be on a free day.
LOL, I think got the idea! I might want to reschedule this then...
Thanks
I know I am resurrecting an old post, but just visited the Vatican Museum. I went in the afternoon. It was so crowded that it was really very difficult to enjoy it at all. There were no lines to get in, however, it was so jammed packed once inside. If one can visit in the off season, it would definitely be the way to go.
