Regarding vatican museum tours offered through the vatican directly - I am aware that we will have to go all the way around to the beginning to return the earphones after the end of the Vatican Museum / Sistine Chapel tour but...will we have to do the same if we add the Basillica to the tour as well. In short, will be able to leave the earphones somewhere at the Basillica since we have a Scavi tour booked shortly afterwards. Thanks for your help!
Funny story, Devon. Our first time to Rome we rode one of those double-decker buses with the tour guide narrating in English. Well, in theory it was English. We could understand about every fifth word. :-)
Doreen, We took the same tour last month. They gave us the earphones and "black box" for lack of a better term at the beginning of the tour. Once we got done with the Sistine Chapel, we walked over and went through the Basilica. When we were done, we all gathered outside St. Peters and gave back our "black box" right then (the tour guide called someone to bring a box to collect them all because the tour was over) and we got to keep the earphones. I would think it would be the same situation with your tour. Have a great trip.
The couple of times I've taken the tours they have collected them at the end of the tour. No need to go back to the front of the museums. The only time you have to go back to the front of the museums is if you rent an audio guide. Donna
Have fun with the Scavi tour! A pretty limited number of people each day get to do it. My guide on it was hard to understand and would try to say jokes but then no one would understand her in time to laugh and it would become awkward, but hopefully yours will be better! Even with the communication trouble we still got a lot out of it.
Thanks for all of your help!!! We are still deciding between the Vatican / Sistine Chapel and the Vatican / SIstine Chapel / Basillica Tours.
