Vatican Museum and Scavi tour

I sent an email over a month ago to reserve a Scavi tour, and when didn't hear back, I assumed there was nothing available for the 2 days I was to be in Rome. So I went ahead and reserved a Vatican tour with Angel tours at 9:30. Just heard today that we can do the Scavi tour at 1:45 on the same day as our Angels tour. Is this feasible? Will we have enough time to get to the Scavi tour?

A couple of questions first. Is the Angel Tour allowing you to "skip the line" and go in the Museum at 9:30 AM. Does their tour include St. Peter's Basilica after the Vatican Museum?

If the answer to both of these is yes, than you will make your tour. Angel Tours are usually about three hours (that's what they told you, correct?) and if you do not have to wait in line you will be okay.

If you do the VM first, then St. Peter's, even better as you will be right these for the Scavi Tour. You should even have time for lunch.

If you HAVE TO WAIT IN LINE for the Vatican Museum... then all bets are off because who knows how long the line will take???

Hi Conny,

We are doing the exact same thing: Angel Tours tour of the Vatican at 9:30 and Scavi Tour at 1:45. I emailed Angel Tours asking if there would be enough time (they do advertise skip the line). This is their response:

"You will have plenty of time to do both, we finish the tour inside St. Peters Basilica around 12.30, and the Scavi Tour starts just to the left of the entrance to St Peters so you will be perfectly placed."

Thank you. Had planned on emailing Angel tours to get their input. Looks like it should work out ok.

Hi, It should work, but I would still email Angels tour to verify with them. We did a skip the lines tour with another company last Sept and still have to wait 1 1/2 hours to get into the museum and then got rushed through the museum. Make sure your tour goes to the St. Peter's after you come out the Sistine Chapel. My tour went back to the front of the museum and onto a bus around 12:30. There is a staircase after the Sistine Chapel that Rick Steve's mentions that takes you out to St. Peter's. You will be on the right side of St. Peter's. The Scavi tour start to the left of St. Peter's inside the gate where the Swiss Guards are. If you need to use the toilets before the Scavi tour they are also on the left side near the Vatican Post Office and Souvineer Shop.

You should be fine but the day of the tour make sure your guide is aware that you have to be at the Scavi Office at 1:45p. Angel Tours has a good reputation, I'm sure the guide will take care of you.
