Two friends are visiting on a last Sunday of the month this summer. Is it true the Museums and Sistine Chapel and Basilica are free on this day? Is it super crowded and would they be better off getting a ticket for early entry the following Monday morning vs. the free day? It says last entry is 12:30. They figure to get there around 11:30. Would this give them time to get through everything?

Free Sunday during high season is the LAST time I'd try and do the museums. They'll be mobbed. Your friends are much better off getting early-entry tickets for Monday. Although the museums/basilica will be plenty busy, at least they won't be standing in a long, long line, and be able to see the Sistine before it's overrun.
