Hello everyone. I'm looking into different options for a tour of the Vatican and noticed through the Vatican website that you can get a tour of the Gardens. It is only possible to see the Gardens on a tour and then proceed into the museum on your own. Has anyone heard/seen the Gardens and know if it would be worthwhile? Thanks for any advice!
Garden tours are small and you will definitely need reservations if you can still get them.
I was just searching the same thing on the internet since I'm visiting in August... many of the reviews seem to suggest it's not really worth it, but I did read one which said it did. Maybe it depends on the guide?
I did get to go on the garden tours of the Vatican and I remember really enjoying it, do something special that not everyone else does. I believe we toured the Vatican and then saw the gardens, but I can't remember. If you decide to do this, bring snacks or take a break mid-way through. The Vatican museum is a lot to digest, I always leave tired and ready to sit down. The entrance though is on the other side of the St. Peter's, so distance from the entrance to the Vatican museum.
We went on the Garden tour last month. It was the highlight of our visit. Our tour guide was great. She told us about the history of the gardens and the Vatican. She also gave some insight on different Popes and how they related to the garden and the people who worked there.
The tour ends in the Vatican Museum where you can explore at your leisure. We had seen the museum several times before so we went to the cafe and had lunch, hit the post office for Vatican stamps and went to the Sistine Chapel. We took the short cut St. Peter's for a nice visit.
Here's a link to Annette's original post, she was asking questions in April and just now posted a follow up after their tour
