Has anyone taken the tour? Is is worth scheduling the Museum and St. Peter's around it (is only offered one time per day 3 times a week)? Thanks in advance.
We were disappointed in the Vatican Gardens tour...mostly trees and shrubs, the Popes don't really use it...the best part was at the exit, seeing the Millienum Bell (not supposed to ring it) and the back of St. Peter's, which, while unusual, is not worth the time just to see it.
Definitely tour the museum/Sistine Chapel. And I hope you have a better tour guide than we did.
Can't comment on the garden tour but if you are doing St Peters, museum and Sistine chapel I can highly recommend Angel tours. I hate guided tours and only did it because I had really limited time but it was probably the highlight of my trip. Check out their website - www.angletoursrome.com. Small groups and really well priced.
I took the gardens tour this past March...only because I had exhausted a lot of other Vatican City options (the museum, the Basilica, the weekly papal address). It is two hours walking and really is more of "these are the kinds of trees on the property, and here are some stories about the iddferent popes." I had an excellent guide, but think the museum and Basilica are your first priorities.
