We are going to Rome in October. Does anyone have a suggestion of a source for tickets for the Excavations Tours other than the Vatican offices. Thanks.
The only way to get access to the Scavi is via the Scavi office. You are probably quite late for requesting access, so I highly recommend you do so today. You can visit the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See's website and get that information under the heading "Visiting the Vatican." The website is www.vatican.usembassy.gov
Grant, the SCAVI email is [email protected]. Let them know which dates you will be available for the tour and how many people. You should get a confirmation that they have received your request and then it will be just waiting to see if you hear from them. If you don't hear from them that means the dates you want are all booked up. I've seen mentioned that if you don't get a reservation you might still go to the Guards in the morning and ask for the Scavi office to see if there have been any cancellations for the day. We will be taking the tour in October when we are in Rome and are looking forward to it. Many have posted that it was the highlight of their trip.
Check this out. This is how we booked a few years back. It was a great tour.
