Vatican City, Rome

I had been told that you need a ticket to even get into Vatican City in addition to the ticket for the Vatican Museum. However, in looking through Rick's book in the Rome section all I see is the need to get the Vatican Museum ticket. So, I'm assuming that that is all that is necessary for the Vatican. Is that correct? Thanks so much Susan

You don't need a ticket to get into the basilica or St. Peters square or the papal grottoes. If you wish to climb the dome you'll need a ticket for that. You also need a ticket to enter the museums or tour the Vatican gardens. If you wish to take the scavi tour you'll need to make a reservation and buy tickets for that as well. I doubt you'll even realize when you enter Vatican city as there is no gate or guards. To get into the basilica and the museums you'll need to go through security check points but there is no charge for the basilica. Donna

That is correct. There is no charge to enter St. Peter's or the piazza in front.
