Vatican City in June

Hi, am looking to buy our tickets now and am in the process of finalizing itinerary. I understand that Vatican is always crowded. Is there any day that we should avoid going there? Someone might have said to avoid going there on Sunday and Monday?
Isn't sunday the day that the Pope appeared on the window and do his blessings? Supposedly, we will have our first full day on saturday and will be in Rome till Tuesday. Thanks!

Just did a related post on this for Cheri you might want to read. Sunday the Vatican Museums are closed (except for "free Sunday" once a month when it is jammed). Monday is reputedly busy because of the pent up demand from Sunday closure. Wednesday is the day the Pope may do a blessing in St. Peter's Square, which some sources say is a good time to go to the Museums as a result. I did not put this is my other post, but Ron in Rome has an excellent set of tips to seeing the Vatican: http://www.roninrome.com/%20sites-and-attractions/20-tips-on-visiting-the-vatican-museums. Worth reviewing to help you strategize. Given your choices, I'd probably opt for Saturday afternoon. Note the mornings are usually busiest. Most people say the afternoon (1300, 1400) is the best time to see the museums. You could perhaps see the Basilica in the morning, have lunch, and hit the museums about 1330.

Thanks so much Laurel! That was such a good Link to tips for the vatican City. It will be so helpful. If given the choice, I would like to spend one day to see Vatican and St peter's. We would be in Rome from Saturday to wednesday in June so I would do it on Tuesday whole day or Wednesday am when the pope does his Blessings on St peter's. Thanks again.

I'm sure the Ron in Rome list has this tip, but when you do choose a day for museums in Rome, get reservations! It will help somewhat with lines, especially if you are going during June.
