Vatican City: Getting Liturgical Celebration Tix & last Sun. free museum

We're trying to get tickets to attend the Liturgical Celebration at the Vatican in May. It's the last Sunday of the month so we were hoping to get into the Vatican museum free that day as well. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get celebration tickets and can you still purchase a group guided tour on line for the free Sunday admission day into the Vatican museum?

Thanks for any help!

No one does guided tours of the Vatican museum on the free day. The place is a mad house & it is too difficult to conduct a tour.

SamSn is correct. I live next door to the Museum and the last Sundays of the month are total chaos!

You have limited entry times also. The doors open at 8:30 AM and last entry is at 12:30 PM. Then you have to exit by 2:30 PM.... often the lines to get in are 1.5 - 2.hours long. So unfortunately, some folks in line do not even get in. And if you do get in, it's packed! Go on a different day, pay the €14, take your time, and enjoy the Museum!

Thanks for the tips. I did hear the free Sunday was very busy, but didn't realize it was that chaotic. We'll shoot for a couple days prior to the Sunday instead. Are either of you familiar with the Liturgical Celebrations at the Vatican and how easily it is to get the free tickets? Thanks again for your help!

We've been to the Wednesday Papal audience and to the Angelus on Sunday at noon. Only the audience required tickets. We picked the tickets up from the office of the Papal household which is in the same office as the Vatican Post office.I had the scathingly brilliant idea that I could get up ubber early and be at the front of the line for the free day at the Vatican Museum. At quarter of seven it was unbelievably long and already to the sign warning that after that point it was unlikely you'd get in.

Maggie,

Did you have to fax the form provided to receive the free tickets? I am having trouble faxing the form, I get either busy or no connect with the fax number provided. How early did you get your tickets too? Wondering how quickly they get snapped up.

Thank you!
