My niece and I will be taking the 'Vatican by Train' full day tour and was hoping that someone might have some info on the tour.

One of our long time regulars here writes a regular blog called GoodDayRome.
In September of 2015 she wrote a long review and commentary on the Vatican by Train, plum full of good information and lots of details.
She has never steered me wrong about Rome.

I suggest that anyone going to Rome should look at the blog site GoodDayRome before going. It is filled with very useful information on that city and could help you to have a wonderful trip.

Nice report on the link. I'll report on the Apostolic Palace at Castel Gandolfo, which the author didn't see, for good reason - it's boring. Mostly paintings of popes in a sterile, white space; you can read about them on Wikipedia, instead. Plus, if you take a regular train to Castel Gandolfo, there's a fair hill to climb. The garden tour is where it's at.
