Vatican at end of April

Is it worth doing a tour or just buying entrance tickets on line and doing an audio tour or booking a guided tour from the official site when buying entrance tickets. What is the official site in which to buy tickets. I am assuming that by getting tickets online beforehand we "skip the line". We hope to spend 1/2 a day there.
Thank you for your thoughts and advice.

I would suggest doing the 3-hour combo tour of the Vatican Museums and St Peter's basilica. Besides shepherding you through the highlights of the VAST museums, you get to access the basilica directly through a back stairway from the Sistine that's reserved for tours. This saves a long walk between museums and church and a 2nd security check line.

If you are REALLY into art/antiquities, you may want more time but this works for a majority of visitors.

You reserve your tour here (choose the tour for individuals). You will have to reserve a specific time slot:

Buy the guided tour with a live person that will know how to navigate the museum.
And you skip the long lines for the museum and St Peters Basilica.
There are many companies I used this one no problem I bought the 50 euro tour.

The Vatican's own tour ( I linked in my first post) is 37 euro per adult ticket. Yes, you skip all but the security-check line everyone must go through.
