Vatican area restaurants

Any recommendations for our first meal in Rome? We will be staying in the Vatican area and after a long first day of touring, think it would be nice to eat close to our apartment. Any suggestions are appreciated!

We stayed in an apartment across the courtyard from this restaurant, Il Mozzicone at Borgo Pio, 180. Went back again and again. Lots of locals eat there as well as some tourists. Very good food. Nice outdoor eating area off the street. Try the grilled veal chop and the involtini (beef rolls.) Delicious!

Isola della Pizza, near the Vatican museums. Great pizza, pasta, salads, main courses. They have a website, you can che k them out and make a reservation online.

Piacere Molise Via Candia 60. They have great food, limited English, pizzas, pastas secondis. (It's quite small, a locals place. I've been eating there for 10 years every trip to Rome. There's also a good Pizzeria on this same street. (Not the Very Big Joint across the street where the tour busses show up with 20 Kids!) When looking for pizza in Rome look for 'legna al forno' on the menu outside. Means wood fire, and it's the best!

Thanks Danielle! I keep staying at the same hotel/same neighborhood...but I LOVE it! I wish I could remember the pizzeria, but the big one isn't very good -- very touristy. The one I remember is also small on Via Candia -- and definitely "forno al legna" Wood oven! Just look for that sign on the outdoor menu for any pizzeria in Italy or Sicily and you'll have a great pizza. I always request "multi basillico" lots of basil -- but that's my preference!!

Our favorite in the Vatican area is "Vito e Dina" at Via Degli Scipioni, 50. Recommended to us for lunch by a local, we tried it and liked it so much we went back for dinner. The owner, Vito is a real character.
