Vatican and St Peters

Sure, but I suppose it depends on how much interest you have in the museum. 2 hours is about the minimum to get through, 3 is more likely, a real art fan could take all day.

Do note that they suggest for the climb, that you go through security 90 minutes before your reserved time, to get your audio guide and tour the Basilica inside, before the climb, so 11:00 so that gives you just under 3 hours.

anyone have any experience showing up to climb to the dome a little late..?

If my ticket from Vatican is 8.. what time do you think I should show up?
-so finishing up at the Vatican by 11.
-the walk to St.Peters..30mins?
-line up for security...60mins?
head right to the line for walk up
-can I see the rest of the basilica after?

Vatican City , aka The Vatican, is the name of the independent city-state. You do not nee tickets to enter the Vatican. All you have to do is walk past the bollards denoting the border.

yes. have ticket to Vatican Museums for 8:00
then ticket to climb the dome in St Peters at 1:30
I hope then to be back in the basilica to tour it.
I have been before.. but 35 yrs ago...don't really remember all that much..
I have read the distance between the museums and St P's is a half hour walk?

just really wondering if all this is going to work out. if if I was late for the climb to the dome.. do they not let you proceed?

I think that it is doable. Get to the Vatican museum before the 8:00 a.m. entry. With this early admission you will be ahead of the big crowds which build during the day. Pace yourself to finish the VM by about 11:00 a.m. at the latest. On your way to St Peter's basilica, try to grab a quick bite and be lined up by about 12pm to enter the basilica. That should give you enough time to make your dome climb. Then you can spend some time exploring the basilica itself. Good luck.
