I have one day to see both the Vatican and the Colosseum. Is it best to get a tour in order to avoid the lines? I only want a couple hours at the Vatican and a shorter Colosseum tour. My main concern is waiting in lines - I want to avoid them. Any suggestions on companies to use or if it is necessary? I heard about a tour that lets you into the vataican before it opens is this something I should look into? Thanks, jacqueline
Take a look at Context Rome. They are amazingly good, and I seem to recall they have early and late Vatican Museums tours
We used Angel Tours - but we did the tour of Vatican one day (it took a few hours before you get to the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's)and then the ancient sites the next. I recall we jumped the very long line at the Vatican, but I believe if you go online and book your tix direct with the Vatican Museum you can do the same thing. They also have an audio tour? At the least, it's something to check out since you can plan your own day - with a tour you are locked into their schedule.
You don't need to be on a tour in order to bypass the lines at those sites. Go to the official sites and book entry tickets. They allow you to bypass the lines and you can stay as long as you wish. Since you are on such a limited amount of time I wouldn't book any tours and just go with entry tickets. Donna
