Vatican after dark tour

Their website makes it sound like you'll be the only ones inside the museums but that's not true. On Friday nights the Vatican does night openings. They open at 7pm and close at 11pm. You can book entry tickets or a tour directly with the Vatican and not need to pay their expensive fees.

Friday nights at the museums are great. The crowds are small and the galleries are not hot, like during the day. We were there in July this past summer and we in the chapel with about 45 others for about half an hour. We easily found seats along the wall and were able to enjoy the ceiling and other artwork at our leisure.

Just be aware that they don't offer this year round. Just mostly spring through fall.
