Is it possible to visit St. Perter's Basilica on a Wednesday afternoon?

We were there on Fri. I believe they are open til 6pm everyday(free).Check the Vatican website. www.museivaticani.va. If you plan to see the Vatican museum & Sistine Chapel get tickets on line, you go right to the front of the line "on line reservations", the other lines are very long! Hope that helps.
