Various questions about Naples and Palermo

I am looking for a place to stay and things to do for 1 night in Naples. I will be arriving late on Sunday and will fly out the next day to Palermo. I am traveling alone so safety is most important to me.
What is the best way to get to Palermo?
What are some things to do in Palermo? I will be there for over a week.

Thanks
Anita

Anita,

In Naples you might have a look at Hotel Chiaia, which is in a really nice area and close to the elegant Grand Cafe Gambrinus (great place to have a Limoncello or a decadent pastry). If you're arriving late on a Sunday, that won't allow time for much (any?) sightseeing, but the hotel staff should be able to offer some suggestions. If you stay there, ask the hotel staff to pre-arrange your transport to the airport at the time you check in.

You indicated that you're flying from Naples, so I assume you're asking about getting from the airport into the city. The least expensive way is the Bus - http://www.palermo-airport.com/transportation.html (as I recall, you turn to the right as you exit the terminal to reach the bus stop).

I quite enjoyed my stay at Hotel Tonic in Palermo. If you decide to stay there, exit the airport bus at Teatro Politeama. You can walk from there.

You might find it helpful to download the appropriate chapter from the Lonely Planet Italy guidebook. If you're travelling with a Smartphone, iPod, iPad or Laptop, you'll have easy reference to the information. A few thoughts on Palermo.....

Buon Viaggio!
