Varenna to Venice by rail

Is it feasible to take a day trip from Milano to Varenna in the AM, then go directly from Varenna by rail to Venice and arrive there by 5PM? Is there a place to store bags at the rail station in Varenna? Thanks for helping.

You can look this up on the Italian Railways website: http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
Milano to Varenna:

Milano Centrale depart 08:20, Varenna-Esino arrive 09:23
Milano Centrale depart 09:20, Varenna-Esino arrive 10:23

etc. through the day. Varenna to Venice, you have to double back to Milano:

Varenna-Esino depart 12:37, Venezia S. Lucia arrive 16:40
Varenna-Esino depart 13:37, Venezia S. Lucia arrive 17:48

So yes, it is possible, but you would not have much time in Varenna.

And since you are coming back to Milano Centrale, you can store bags there. But leave plenty of time between trains, as there could be a line and wait time to retrieve them.

Feasible - yes; desirable - no. You have just enough time to have lunch and use the restroom in Varenna. I wouldn't bother. Its a place for relaxing and lingering, not just a quick look to say you've been there. The rail station is unmanned.
