We will be staying in Varenna for 2 nights and then heading to Pontresina via Tirano on regular trains. I know you can buy train tickets at the travel agency in Varenna, but if it isn't open when we stay there, what are our alternatives? Can you buy these tickets earlier in Milan, etc? Can you buy from the conductor as one book states (not Rick Steves)? Thanks so much for your help.
