October in Varenna- any suggestions on Restaurants. We will be staying at the B&B affiliated with Hotel Oliveda. I hear their restaurant is very good and will go there for 1 dinner but would like another as staying 2 days

Yes, il Cavatappi. Small 14 table restaurant. Make a reservation. Mario is the man! Wonderful food. One of my best meals in ALL of Italy! Check the Tripadvisor reviews as well.

We stayed elsewhere but had dinner at Hotel Oliveda one night. They ripped us off. I hope they treat the people who are staying there better. Just a comment, but when we ate there the dining room was full and every table in the place was occupied by English speakers.

Shelley, I'd recommend having at least one dinner at Albergo Olivedo. In October you may be dining outside in front of the Hotel, or inside in the dining room (depending on weather). I've always found the meals to be very good, so hopefully that hasn't changed. As I recall, the Ravioli was especially good. If you want a small meal along with a glass of Vino for lunch, you might try Barilott, which is in the main Piazza just across from the Church. I always stop by there for a Panino and a visit with the owners, Claudia and Fabrizio (which often takes several hours and several glasses of Vino!). There's an Internet Cafe there also. We had a great meal at "Quattro Pass" which is very near Albergo Milano. The steak with green peppercorn sauce was the best steak I ever ate. Of course it was very rare because I forgot to order it "ben cotto," well done. But it was so good I ate every purple bite!
