Looking for recommendations for places to book in Varenna. I understand this is a recommended location to stay. No car and arriving by train from Bologna. I’m not finding a ton of options here Hotels or Airbnb. So if anyone has recommendations, I’ll take them. We are mid priced type travelers. Like to save the cash for activities, etc.

April 10 thru 13th. Just 3 nights. Would prefer to stay under $800 but it’s not a deal killer. We just head to Switzerland after that and I know it will be an expensive week.

Try looking at booking.com for an idea of prices during the time you want to be in Varenna.

You may need to stay in Bellagio, where there are more options. You are a bit late for April.
We are waiting for Hotel du Lac , in Varenna, to reopen and accept reservations for the spring. However, it's getting to be mid-January and I haven't heard from this property, so I made back up plans.

As Pat mentioned, Casa du Lac (the old Hotel du Lac) is reopening and I couldn't recommend that more highly.
There is also The Royal Victoria which looks lovely. I've had friends stay at Albergo Milano and Hotel Olivedi and they were very happy.
I don't know anything about apartments or bnbs as we like a hotel on holidays.

I stayed at the hotel below in Menaggio (across the lake and just minutes from Varennna and Bellagio) a few years ago. I loved the hotel and the location. Gorgeous rooms with a view (check their gallery photos)
They have availability for your dates. 507€ for 3 nights (or 567€ with breakfast included).
