We’re visiting Lake Como for the first time in early May and staying at an Airbnb in Varenna. Can anyone recommend some good places to eat? It doesn’t have to be fancy and we will have a car as this is one stop on our trip. We would enjoy taking a boat around the lake too, so also welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You cannot go wrong with with Ristorante La Vista, at Albergo Milano. We have had several nice dinners on the deck there, with beautiful views over the lake.

There is a ferry from Varenna to take you around the lake.

We made reservations for Il Caminetto and loved it. Our contact was through WhatsApp and they were very prompt in their communication. They limit how many people they will serve in an evening, so you get lots of attention. The RS guidebook recommended the daily set menu and that’s what we ordered, but others chose ala carte options. We got more food than what was listed on the menu and it was all delicious. They picked us up at the Varenna ferry dock and took us up a winding road to their restaurant. They returned us to our hotel when it was over, maybe because it was dark and our hotel was close to the dock.
