We are going to Varenna in early May and are having trouble booking a nice hotel. Any suggestions?
Which hotels have you tried? I stayed at the Royal Victoria in Sept which had a really wonderful breakfast buffet with a beautiful lake view. I was there a couple of nights on my own and got the lake view room with a balcony and oh my word....beautiful. For the tour I had to move to a smaller room with a view of the square. I wasn't in the room much but wowser, if budget is not an issue get a balcony room!
Villa Cipressi is excellent, beautiful gardens, also we have stayed at Albergo Milano, which is a typical Rick Steves hotel that we loved, great food and view of the lake.
I also stayed at the Royal Victoria and splurged for a lakefront room with balcony. The view was amazing. Worth every penny.
I stayed at Hotel Olivedo and liked it. We had a large room with a fantastic view of the lake. The owner is a bit quirky, but don’t let her scare you off. She’s fine.
Stayed at Villa Cipressi on The Best of Italy tour. The gardens and views were gorgeous. The breakfast was delicious. It was walking distance from the train station. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at the Albergo Milano last year. It was great. We had a little apartment with a lovely patio overlooking the lake.
The Hotel du Lac is amazing. I would contact them directly via email. It’s the off season so they might not get back to you for a while. We stayed in the former boat house right on the lake.
Villa Cipressi is great!! Would stay there again in a heart beat.
