Varenna hotel recommendation

Can anyone make a recommendation of a nice hotel in Varenna on Lake Como? I'm looking for something with a nice sun deck, great views, walking distance to "everything" at a nightly rate of 120-150 Euro a night - give or take. Thanks in advance!

I am staying at the Orange House and they sound lovely and the room is very reasonable.

Becky, Albergo Olivedo, right on the water, with a small balcony, and great food. Read ricks recomendations. We stayed three nights, and loved it. the ferry will be landing when you go to sleep, and when you wake! It really is a very nice place, central to everything. Also, visit the castle on top of the hill. Nice walk, GREAT VIEW!!!, nice place to be. Have a great time! Jeff

Becky,

Some suggestions you could consider:

> Albergo Olivedo: great location right at the Ferry dock and walking distance from the train. Laura's Ravioli is worth a stop! They also have apartments in a building next door to the Hotel.

> Albergo Milano: wonderful Hotel with great views, but a bit more pricey.

> Hotel Royal Victoria: right in the centre of town, close to the Church. A bit more "upscale" but a VERY beautiful Hotel.

> Albergo Villa Cipressi: an elegant "old world" property (with prices to match), but great if you can afford it.

You might have a look at the Italy 2010 Guidebook, as it provides listings for accommodations in different price ranges in Varenna, along with good transportation info, etc.

Happy travels!

I loved Albergo Milano. We paid a little more for a lakefront balcony but we really enjoyed sitting out on the balcony at the end of the day. The views were breathtaking. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable. The rate included breakfast. The owner was also nice enough to set out our breakfast the night before we left since we had to leave very early in the morning.

Stayed at Olivedo and also loved it. Lara's food was the best we had in all of Italy...esp. the stuffed Ravioli.
