Varenna accomodation

While Visiting the Lake Como area we would like to stay in the town of Varenna for two nights. We would like a bed-and-breakfast style of accommodation where breakfast is provided. Can anyone recommend somewhere that runs between the 100-130 euro price range??? My husband is 6'2 and needs a bigger size bed than a Canadian double OR twin size might work. Thank you

suzanne,

Most of the hotels there provide breakfast, so they're kind of like a B&B. You could try Albergo Milano which is a big favourite with many here, or Royal Hotel Victoria. If you have the RS Italy guidebook, there should be lots of listings there.

We recently returned from Varenna, where we had spent a couple of nights at Albergo Baretta, a B&B above a bar, within walking distance of the train station, and easy access to the center. Down the street from a great outdoor cafe near the Lido sunbathing area. For 100 euros, we were given a large triple room, with a queen bed, a nice balcony, and a large bathroom. The price included a simple breakfast downstairs in the dining area. This was our second trip to Lake Como, and at both places where we had stayed, the shower was a free-standing, small enclosure with rounded doors that slid on a track and opened in the middle. Whatever place you decide to stay in, you may want to make sure that not only the bed, but also the shower can accomodate your husband

Stayed at Albergo Milano twice and loved it. Had a friend also stay there on their honeymoon and loved it too.

We stayed at Eremo Gaudio. It a bit on the outskirts, but the view is SUPERB.

I am 6' and had plenty of room in the bed

Albergo Milano was very nice. We actually stayed in one of their other properties, very close. Our room even had a full kitchen (we didn't request it!) , and the bed was fine. My husband is 6'.

We've stayed at the Hotel Olivedo. It's on the water, just downhill from the train station, so it's walkable. It's run by a character named Laura, who can rub some the wrong way, but if you get to know her and have a meal in her wonderful restaurant, you will become fast friends. Try her Pear Dessert--it's devine!

The hotel is close to the ferry dock, which can be a bit noisy, but not too noisy, and it's convenient to catch the ferry to hop to other towns on the lake. Sitting on your balcony and watching tourists catch the ferry is entertaining in itself.
