Vaporetto timetables - where are they?

I can't find water bus schedules anywhere. Even the official ACTV website does not have them. Many websites have routes and lines, but none of them have any information about times. How many minutes apart do they arrive and depart? What are operating hours for each line or station? Do vaporetti always run on the hour, half hour, etc.? I need to know what times to expect vaporetti to arrive at the stops we will wait for them at to make any plans for riding them! Why isn't this information online?

On the Grand Canal, vaps run about every twelve minutes.

Murano, Burano etc about every 20 minutes.

Timetables are posted at every vaporetto stop.

The VeneziaUnica app is excellent at finding not only departure but arrival times at your destinations...

they're like subways, or trolleys, they show up every few minutes

Does the schedule change often? I'm wondering if I print it now, will it still be valid when we are there in July?

Good question Land. I did not think of that. Because this is April, I would not worry about that happening before your trip.

If, as phred says (above), the vaporetti turn up every few minutes, does a schedule really matter?

The schedules for the most popular routes (1, 2, 5.1, 5.2, 4,1, 4.2, 6 nd the Murano/Burno/Torcello vaps) do not change from winter to summer.

There are several seasonal routes, Lido/Forte Massimilano/Vignole/Murano Colonna for example, but these are not on the main tourist trails.

Landlocked, if you are going to the more "out of the way" places, then you do need to check carefully. If there are route changes, they might not be reflected on the vap maps at each vaporetto stop. We got caught out going to Certosa, which is a request stop. We thought that the vaporetto that we caught would stop there on request, but our information was incorrect.

Similarly, there used to be a dedicated vaporetto doing just Burano - Torcello - Burano, a shuttle, but this has now changed.

Route maps in guide books can be out of date.

Landlocked5, no one here has been snarky or opinionated. They've given information to the best of their ability that they can at this time. People here are not travel agents: they generously try to help on their own free time, and based on experience. Note the amount of posts many of them have responded to, and be nice, please.

Norma, is it every few minutes 24/7 or are there limited operating hours? That is pretty important.

Also, there could be differences in operating hours for some of the lines such as frequency of stops. It would be nice to know that too.

Kathy, if you're trying to be nice and helpful then questioning why it is important is actually neither. I was asking a valid question and don't need to be told it doesn't matter bc they come frequently. I am aware of the value of these threads..... Your comments about what I feel is important has nothing to do with "helpful" or "nice"

I consider it quite snarky when someone tells me my question isn't important.....thank you to those of you that are helpful. I will carefully read the schedules before heading out for the day with my kids to make sure we aren't stranded.

Looking at vaporetto timetables, the No 1 line, Piazzle Roma to Lido.

Starts at 5:00 AM, and a vap every twenty minutes.
From 6:00 AM there is a vaporetto every twelve minutes until about 8:30 PM
After that it returns to every twenty minutes until about mid-night. There is a timetable at every stop, on the pontoon.

Landlocked5, I didn't question why it was important. I was only responding to your comment that someone who did was snarky. That wasn't the impression I got at all, rather a suggestion to relax because the boats run on frequent and regular basis. You also didn't state which out-of-the-way places you were planning to go, which might have helped.

What counts is the starting and ending times, and the interval between boats on the route you want. The schedule is not exact ---one boat may be delayed, and the next might show up earlier. I believe that is what Norma was saying.

If you are going to one of the less served islands, such as San Servolo, you may need to pay close attention to the schedule, as the boats are less frequent. But for routes down the Grand Canal, it is enough to know that the boats come along every 12 minutes or so.

Kathy-
We are interested in travel to Pellestrina.

I haven't really seen anyone talk about it at all. My daughter has requested a beach day and it sounds like a lovely beach atmosphere without the crowds of the Lido.

Yes , we have, and we are much closer in age to you than your daughter. We had a picnic on the sea wall at Malomocco (google it, and in satellite view you can see the Malomocco fort). The sea wall that separates the Adriatic from the lagoon is a massive stone construction, but from the wall you can easily walk down the stone embankment and jump into the sea.

Certainly you can expect solitude at Pellestrina, but it is not really a beach, it is the same as at Malomocco.

To get there, take vap to the Lido, and then the bus. I think it is the No 11 bus, and I think that your vaporetto pass works also for buses. The bus stop is just over the road from the Lido vap stop.

The busses run in tandem, and best to get on the first bus. The bus passes through Malomocco and as far as Alberoni, and there the trailing bus stops. But if you don't get the leading bus, there is still time to walk onto the ferry. The leading bus goes onto a vehicle ferry, and goes as far as Pellestrina, where it terminates. From the bus terminus, you can take another vaporetto across to Chiogia. There is a street market in Chiogia on Thursdays.

So your daughter won't be building any sand castles, but you will both have experienced a different side to Venice and the lagoon. I do think that you have to see and experience the lagoon to understand Vence.

As an alternative, you could go to La Certosa, where there is heaps of grassed open space, a bar and you can see what Big Money gets up to when it comes to buying yachts. Ask before you board, "La Certosa?" You'll get a yes or no. My vap map shows both the 4.1 and 5.1 vaps stopping at Certosa, but good to enquire.

An alternative would be to take the No 13 vap to San Erasmo. Get off at the Capannone stop, the first stop after Murano/Faro. You'll see a long straight road after you walk through the car park. Down that road, about half a kilometre is a bar to your left, another half k brings you to Forte Maximillian, where there is the Bar Tedeschi. Don't ask me why there is a German bar there. You will walk past market gardens, artichokes growing, and it is very peacefull. I think the fort should be re-armed, to fire warning shots across the bows of the cruise liners.

Back to the OP's question.

Norma, is it every few minutes 24/7 or are there limited operating hours? That is pretty important.

The "N" boat runs 11:30 pm to 5 am generally following the combined route of the No 1 and No 2 lines, skipping a few stops.

When what the poster wants to find out becomes clear it is much easier to provide the answer to the actual question.

Cuts down on the perception - incorrect perception - of snarky.

Oh, now I have just noticed that the person who complained so much wasn't the original poster at all, but somebody who hitchhiked on the thread. As somebody who regularly contributes here - free of charge - I can tell you how hard it is to keep two different questions straight on one thread.

Until the hitchhiker made it clear that they wanted information way out in the lagoon where 99% of tourists go the answer that there is a regular flow of boats and just turn up made perfect sense.

The point is, if you want an answer do research and then post your own question, and make the question as specific as possible.

If you ask a generic question you get a generic answer. If you ask a precise question you get a precise answer.

And for quick easy details on times use the app I mentioned earlier. It is offline so uses no data.
