It has been 3 years since last in Venice. At that time I had a print out of buying the tickets on line. When trying to claim the actual tickets the lady at the window said I had to use the automated system. It would not take my bar code. After 3 times of trying to tell them it was not working she reluctantly took my information and gave me my passes. Not a pleasant experience in 85 degree heat.
My question: Can you purchase tickets without an automated system in Pizzale Roma or at the train station. There are 4 of us and we need 3 day passes. I am not what you would call a whiz at automated formats.
Two years ago we bought vaporetto passes at a kiosk in the train station It was on the bathroom side of the station (east?) at the end of shops. The line wasn’t long, the cashier spoke English, our credit cards were accepted so it was very easy.
Last trip we purchased at a manned kiosk right outside train station at the vaporetto docks
Very easy
Thank you for your quick replies. Hopefully I can use either or next May.
You do not mention how you are arriving in Venice.
When I fly to Venice I buy my Vaporetto ticket along with my bus pass at the airport when I arrive. It's extremely easy.
it is also true that after the lockdowns ease the expected procedures may change. Better to ask a month or so before you go after some of us have had a chance to experience the changes - or we will be able to check the website.
Always a good idea to get the Che Bateo? app for vaporetto information. It is really good
You can be confident that there will be manned ticket booths at the bigger stops, like P. Roma and Ferrovia.
Another vote for the Che Bateo (Which Boat) app. You select the departure and arrival vap stops, and the app gives you vap times and changes. It works in real time.
I got mine at the airport from a staffed window, easy credit card payment. The fewer bar codes the better! ;-)
Mack-Thank you for the tip - Flying into Venice-I will purchase the Vap & bus tickets at the airport, never thought it.
Nigel- thank you as well- I will download the app.
Hopefully we can all resume our planned travels in 2022.
Last time in Venice - two years ago - I bought my 3-day pass from an automated kiosk outside of the train station, by the vaporetto docks. One language choice at the machine (sort of like a bank ATM machine) was English, and the instructions were very clear. Used a credit card to purchase.
