We will be arriving in Venice by car on a late morning week day in mid April and parking in the Tronchetto garage for three days. Where is the closest/best place to buy a three day vaporetto pass? Do they need to be validated and if so where?
I believe that the nearest place where you can do this is the Piazzale Roma stop which is one stop away from the Tronchetto stop. From my map, it looks like only the #2 to Lido stops at the Trronchetto. At the Piazzale Roma, I believe that there is a Hello Venezia booth. I know that there is one at the next stop which is the Ferrovia stop (main train station) because we've purchased our passes there. I know that you can't just jump onto a vaporetto at the Tronchetto without a ticket (although they don't check your tickets) so perhaps there is something at the Tronchetto more robust.
You can buy multihour/multi day passes from any vaporetto ticket booth. You will find a booth at the vaporetto stop at the Tronchetto.
Very true. But know that not every vaporetto stop has a ticket booth.
To use the pass, you touch it to a pad near the vaporetto entrance. My recollection is that the clock starts running with the first use, and the 3-day pass is then good for the next 72 hours. It doesn't expire at midnight on the 3rd day like so many 3-day passes in Italy.
There's a Venice Tourist Information office at a rest stop on the Autostrada just before you get to Mestre. It's very convenient to buy your pass there and then just validate when you board the vaporetto.
Niles, Venice is an easily walked city from end to end. May want to check out whether it is worth getting a three day pass vice a ticket for the trip to your hotel and a second time for return to the mainland and just walking. Edwin
You can buy your pass online for a discount before you travel, then trade your receipt and confirmation for passes at the aforementioned Hello Venezia booth. Check out http://www.veniceconnected.com.
Thank you all for the info. You've solved my problem.
