Vaporetto or Allelaguna Usage

We'll be exploring Venice for 2.5 days in September and are staying in the Academia area.........We can buy a vaporetto pass for 12 hours usage for 16 euros. For any of you who have done this, does this also include the transportation vaporetto from the airport? ....also, what are the differences between the vaporetti and the allelaguna regarding reliability, availability and price?

The alilaguna system is different than the vaporettos, on the VeniceConnected.com site (I believe owned and run by the city of Venice) I think they had a combo offer of both together. Depending on when you will be there, the discounts there can be pretty decent. The site was pretty clear about what you could and could not use the different passes for. The alilaguna site with maps and pricing is www.alilaguna.it/index.en.html if this helps separate the two for you, just a different water bus system. The vaporettos themselves do not go to the airport, the alilaguna does. The land bus system from the airport to P. Roma may be part of the vaporetto tickets, sorry, been a while and I forget the details.

The Vaporetto is like a city bus, only in the water. The Alilaguna is a private express shuttle service. When you go to baggage claim you will see a Alilaguna ticket machine for either the bus service to Piazza Roma or the boat to Piazza San Marco. You can check out the Alilaguna web site for the routes. We did the bus (less romantic, but quicker). Go to the Venice connected site and pre-pay your tickets. When you arrive at the airport you can pick up the vouchers at the VC window (or any other Venice connected windows). These are all the web-sites you will probably need in Venice. http://www.alilaguna.it/ http://www.veniceconnected.com/

While the Alilaguna and ACTV (Vaporetto) are different you can use a Vaporetto pass on the bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma where you can get the Vaporetto. The only thing I'm not sure about is picking up the vaporetto pass at the airport, I think there is a window but I'm not sure. I took the Alilaguna and then took the bus to the airport to meet a friend later in the week.
